Vehicle Graphics Removal

There are many "Old School" ideas and tools available to remove vehicle vinyl graphics. Beaver Stripes is proud to say that we are pursuing new and quicker ways to remove these items. We are willing to share some of the tips and tools but we can't give all of our secrets out yet.

If you are looking for help with your fleet when you want or need to change out the old graphics, please look at our services page, we would be more than happy to work with you.

Let's start with dispelling a few myths about stripping vinyl graphics. Yes, stripping is a trial-and-error process, especially for graphics that have been sun-baked on to a car for several years. The "faster is better" approach, for one, can be a major time waster. Vinyl is not like a Band-Aid that has been on your skin for a day or two. Most vinyl applications remain for at least a year and the quick strip method can snap the vinyl into smaller pieces that must be tediously removed bit by bit. Some other no-nos include using abrasive solutions. Anything abrasive, say experts, can quickly damage the paint on an automobile.

O.K. now what do we do to remove vinyl graphics? Our Suggestion would be to contact us about "Vinyl Off" and let us show how it works. You will be amazed at the time and money savings you will enjoy.

O.K. why is Beaver Stripes letting out our secret? We feel that if we can share our findings you will do the same with us. Even though there is still many hours of work involved in removing graphics, this product saves many man hours. And we stock it! Hey were only business!

"Old School" Vinyl removal; though is has not changed much over the years, the vinyl has. Keep that in mind. Some of the newer products we offer work much faster than the old ways.

1. Heat the surface. Using a heat gun (preferably), or a hair dryer, heat the graphics you wish to remove. Heating them will help make them softer and will allow the adhesive to release easier. This is especially important with older graphics as they become brittle over time. Don't allow the heat gun to heat one place for too long as you can damage the substrate and/or burn your fingers.

2. Begin peeling vinyl with a plastic razor blade. Starting at an edge, slide your plastic razor blade under the vinyl until you have a piece large enough to hold with your fingers.

3. Once you have an edge started, pull by hand. Now you can begin peeling the vinyl with your hands. If the vinyl is fairly new, it may come off easily and in one piece. Most vinyl however, will break up into smaller pieces and you will need to pick at it with the plastic razor blade again to continue. If the vinyl is breaking frequently, try using the heat gun again to soften the vinyl.

4. Clean the adhesive. Once your vinyl is completely removed, you will see much of the adhesive has been left behind. You will need to spray this residue with a product such as "Rapid Remover" to soften the adhesive. Allow this to set in for a minute or so before scraping the adhesive. Take your plastic razor blade and scrape the adhesive. It should come off in a jelly-like consistency. Be sure to remove ALL of the adhesive.

5. Clean the adhesive remover. Once you remove all the adhesive, you will need to wash the chemicals off that were left behind. It is very important that you get all of the chemicals off as vinyl will no longer stick in that area if you wish to replace your graphics. Use a spray bottle with a soap and water mix and wash an area larger than your old graphics to ensure that you clean the area entirely.

Sounds easy enough dosen't it? Well go ahead and try that on a 25' box truck. Yeah... you will be there for days.

Now Were getting there!

How about being able to spray or wipe on a product, waiting a few minutes (depending on the age of the vinyl graphic) then scraping it off in larger sections, with out leaving the glue residue? Yes, it really works. That is why Beaver Stripes is trying to get more fleet removal and reinstall business in the valley. We love using this stuff! And we can keep our removal costs down, (Shushhhhh) don't tell our competitors...

Yeah, we all wish it it was that easy, but this does take a little adjustment time, but once you get the system down the graphics come off like you have never seen before. The best results for easy use we have found is removing vinyl pin striping. Weather it be for personal use or in a body shop, it sure beats the heck out of the removal wheels that spit everything everywhere, including the tech using it. We have even had boat shops tell us about "sun burnt" graphics coming off like they have never seen before.

For more information and a sample, please contact us. You will be glad you did! We would even be willing to work with your team to show you how well it works.

Or you can keep using the removal wheels from 3M, along with other sources, making a mess and still having glue residue to remove, which by the way we sell a great prudcut to remove that stuff too!
